Topic > Essay on Wild Animals in Zoos - 735

I somewhat agree with this statement and think it is the strongest argument of animal rights activists. Wild animals are housed in a space that is not even half of what they would have if they were free. Living in such an unnatural habitat can cause a variety of problems for animals, both physically and mentally. During my recent visit to the zoo I was able to personally see the signs that animals show when they are depressed or stressed. It was a very disturbing and heartbreaking situation to witness. Seeing this made it very difficult to enjoy the animals. I couldn't help but keep thinking to myself how unfair it was for them to be stuck in a cage where they can't roam free or interact with other of their kind. Although they had very strong arguments, I think their weakest point was that they did not support the zoo's educational programs. There is no doubt that education plays a very important role in our daily lives. Anyone can pick up a book or watch a documentary on Animal Planet, but there's nothing better than having the chance to learn about wild life up close and personal.
