Digital crime and digital terrorism are crimes of great relevance to law enforcement roles and responses involving crimes committed through and with the aid of computers and other advanced technological devices which includes but is not limited to: identifying theft, fraud, computer hacking, internal and external espionage, white collar crimes, and authors of viruses and malicious code; in conjunction with digital terrorism in terms of the concepts of information warfare and cyber terrorism. All of these crimes are of high significance and require immediate assistance from law enforcement personnel from local, state, and federal agencies due to the anonymity and speed with which these crimes can occur. “Digital crime involves computers as tools to carry out traditional criminal acts of child pornography, financial crimes, information and corporate espionage, exploitation, stalking and identity theft.” (Taylor, 2011) Digital terrorism is defined as the premeditated use of destructive attacks in terrorist activities, or the threat thereof, in large-scale disruptions against computer networks and/or personal computers, with the aim of cause harm through the Internet. Responses and law enforcement roles to digital crime and terrorism at the federal, state, and local levels are imperative faucets that have evolved in reducing and terminating these types of crime to triumph over the war on cyber crime. They have been charged with protecting citizens, businesses and governments from terrorist threats and acts. Federal agencies are on the front lines of cybercrime because they have the technical expertise and political influence to acquire monetary and operational means nationwide.
