Abortion has been used as a means of birth control. It is very controversial and is not considered morally right, but it is a parent's right to do so. In this light, parents should have the right to respectfully discard all early embryos that do not meet their genetic requirements. Utilitarians would say that PGD is justified because parents' lives are happier and therefore their well-being increases. At the moment PGD is not used widely enough to cause a disparity between the upper and lower classes. In the future, however, the population may divide into modified superiors and unmodified inferiors, with the lower class continuing to transmit diseases and disorders. PGD, if not subsidized or strictly regulated, could lead the population into a world of inequality and discrimination.
