Courtney NguyenMs. ChandlerHWL11 March 2014College Isn't for EveryoneThere are parents out there who have a child about to enter the adult world and citizens who pay taxes even if they don't have a child in school. Would citizens want to pay more taxes for ungrateful and unappreciated students? Would parents want to see their child's life thrown away because of the wrong crown? Or even see your dream thrown away because of your parents? College teaches students responsibility, independence, and many other life skills they need to know in the adult world. They learn to work hard for what they want in life; the easier it is, the easier it is. If college is free, most students won't appreciate it as much as if they worked for it themselves. College should not be a free program that careless and irresponsible students can take advantage of. Are you thinking about making college free for students so that everyone's lives are easier? Well, it won't be free for everyone else who isn't a student; nothing in life is completely free. If college tuition is free, does that mean water bills are free too? What about gas bills for heating in winter? Or will students freeze to death in a classroom while trying to learn? And lunch? Who and how will all these things be paid for? As the Denver Post puts it: “As wages rise in the rest of the economy, universities must pay employees more even if their output doesn't increase, resulting in higher costs. Simply moving who pays the bill won't change this equation." (Andrew P. Kelly n. pag.). There are so many other ways that making college free could impact people's time and money. The Smart Mode website says... middle of paper......npost.com/2010/04/11/most-successful-people-wh_n_533355.html#s74922title=Rachael_Ray You don't need a college degree to be successful ; It just depends on the determination of the student. TheDailyCaller states, “according to Bob Morse, there are 155,000 janitors with college degrees right now.” This means that even if the student graduates, it doesn't always mean the job they want. Students who have to pay and work hard for their college will appreciate it more, college shouldn't be free! There won't be enough money, students might end up in the wrong group, and if they don't go to college, they shouldn't have to waste their time, the teacher's time, and everyone's money. So next time you get something easily, maybe you should think about how and why it came to you so easily, appreciate the things you have because nothing in life is free.
