The public school system did not promote success. Instead, it protected an academic collapse in the academic system. This has encouraged parents to lean even more toward charter schools. It was shocking to learn that out of 55,000 teachers only 10 were fired in the entire Harlem school district. The film didn't delve much into bad teachers, but it did share stories about teachers who worked in the public school system. In one case, a teacher who had worked for two years as a fifth-grade teacher noticed that her students had a reading deficit at a lower level. Unfortunately, she lacked support from the administration to provide help to these students. This is evidence that teachers care about the well-being of students' academic success. Surprisingly, community protesters marched against charter schools and felt threatened by them. The teachers and parents of Harlem Success were spokesmen for those who wanted better schools
