Car restoration is a process of repairing a car to return it to an original overall condition that regains its value and quality. According to Remling (1989), a restored automobile will have a higher resale value. The restoration is carried out without modifying the car, maintaining how it should have appeared as it was initially on sale. A complete restoration process not only includes the repair of visible parts such as bodywork, trim, chrome and interior, but also of components that are not necessarily obvious such as the chassis, engine and all accessory parts such as brakes, cooling system and electrical system. Correcting obvious problems and cosmetic defects is why repairs are made. Safety is also another reason as accidents caused by system failures will be minimized after recovery (Remling, 1989). There are several stages in restoring a motor vehicle to its authentic state, namely total disassembly of the car, reupholstering of the interior, repair of the exterior, rebuilding of the engine, reassembly and, finally, testing ( refer to Figure 1 in the Appendix). the car is completely disassembled and stripped of its chassis (Halliday, 1999). According to Gilles (2005), the chassis includes suspension and steering systems, frame, tires, brakes, axles and wheels. Each metal part is then cleaned by removing old paint and carefully examined for damage or rust. Rust, dents and nicks are removed and the metal parts are refinished, primed and painted to return them to their original factory condition. Wear parts are then repaired or replaced if the cost of repair is too high. This process is repeated for the wooden parts where they are subjected to the same meticulous process with the replacement... of the paper core... carefully checked and the surrounding panels are adjusted until there are no more leaks. After completing all the tests, the car is sent to the Roads and Transport Department to be approved by the authorities before being handed over to the owner. Works Cited Atkin, D.C. (2009).
