In The Story of an Hour, Kate Chopin uses many literary devices. Imagery, irony and symbolism make the story interesting and the ending of the story raises many questions, did they come to mind? How is it possible that such an event takes so little time? What is the meaning of that hour? What does your heart condition symbolize? These are some questions that came to mind and the beauty of his writing is the symbolism and irony he uses and readers can have different interpretations. What inspires you to write the story? As I read his biography I concluded that his personal life and experiences. she claims to have started writing after her husband's death. This indicates that she was not allowed to write before and when in the story her husband. The irony of the situation is that his name was on the list and Louis sees his name and tells the news to Mrs. Mallard's sister. She locks herself in the room and her sister thinks she is in pain but she dreamed that her life would be great without her husband. The dramatic irony is his death at the end. As a reader I knew she died because of the shock of seeing her husband, but the characters think she died because of joy. She was happy that he died and wishes for a long life, but sadly he dies. He also uses imagery beautifully. Spring life, the chirping of birds, the open window, the delicious breath of rain, all this symbolizes a new beginning and rebirth. Chopin also creates storm and gloomy weather to show death and mourning. She acted as if she cared about him as expectations of people around her. I don't think she ever wanted him dead or wanted to kill him, but when it happened she saw an opportunity. Kate Chopin tells the story using a lot of symbolism and uses irony to raise the concern of a married woman who has experienced oppression. She is raising an issue and telling readers that women should not experience what Mrs. Mallard did and should not be trapped in the intuition of marriage and following the rules that society has created just for women. His use of literary devices makes the story more interesting and meaningful. That's why this story should be in American literature
