College Exceeded My ExpectationsA new place to live, new friends, a new diverse campus, new classes, and even newfound freedom - this was what awaited me on day one I transferred to Northern Arizona University. These were the things I was looking for as I looked at all the different colleges I could attend. NAU had them all, but more importantly, NAU had a wonderful communications program, which made everything a little better. Having lived in the same cozy home in Tucson my entire life, I wanted a change of scenery and warm climate. So when I began my search for the perfect college, I looked to see if I could live on campus or anywhere outside of Tucson. Coming here to NAU has given me the opportunity to live in a new place, McConnell Hall, and to be proud of where I live. It's wonderful to be able to say that I live here and that it's my room. I know it's not a house or apartment, but it's still great for a first move. At this time in my life I wouldn't choose to live anywhere else but on campus. You meet so many different people and usually something happens, but most of the time it's random things. The great thing about living on campus is that random people show up in your room. Knocking is not something known to the people who live in my hall. It's not uncommon for people to simply come in to talk, or if they knock, they knock once as they enter. It's a great way to meet people, especially friends. People come into your room to steal ideas about how they should put things in their room, to borrow items like a screwdriver or just a can opener, or even just to hang out. The nice thing is that I met a friend of mine in the bathroom when she got her hand stuck in a vase she was washing. In the dorms you meet people irregularly, but it makes for great conversations afterwards.
