Topic > The world was once again plunged into world war after Germany invaded Poland. When the Germans invaded Poland, British and French forces came to help; causing the most destructive war in history (Overy 80). Like many wars, World War II consisted of numerous battles that took place in Europe, Africa, and Asia. Most of these battles lead to another, but major battles lead to turning points in the war. By the act of skill, determination and courage the Allied forces were able to defeat the Axis forces. At the end of the Second World War at least 55 million people died (over 80). One such historic battle remembered for the act of valor was known as the Battle of Britain. The Battle of Britain was fought primarily to determine the overall superiority of England's skies (Hough and Richards 47). This battle was ultimately the first turning point that would slowly but surely end the German forces.
