By gaining knowledge of the basics of assessment for learning and applications, I can research activities to do with my students and how to continually improve classroom learning. These improvements can be implemented by fostering a community of learners. Students develop “thinking and reasoning” skills through their social interactions. (Shepard, 2000). Sharing this information with other teachers and collaborating on practices could increase the chances of student success across the entire school. When there is a lesson or topic that seems difficult for students, applying an assessment for the learning activity in the lesson could provide an alternative route for how to approach the topic to achieve mastery of the standard. I believe the greatest benefit of assessment for learning is that it helps teachers manage students who lack motivation due to the consistently low grades they receive. This type of assessment restores students' confidence in their abilities which will later lead to more success, transforming extrinsic learners into intrinsic learners.
