Reynolds suggests that many of the amendments have to do with dialogue; more specifically the constant editing of the “love scenes” between Fredric and Catherine in an attempt to make them more authentic to the reader. Reynolds also suggests that Hemingway revises many of the monologues recited by Fredric as if this were done in an attempt to make readers feel as if Fredric was telling the story to a friend, rather than writing his accounts in a diary. In closing, Reynolds notes that many of Hemingway's revisions shortened the novel, a tendency very characteristic of Hemingway's journalistic writing style. I will use this source to further expand the symbolisms of both time and seasons, while also elaborating on the monologues and dialogues between Frederic and Catherine regarding time or seasons.
