In the movie "Crash" a white off-duty police officer shoots and kills a young black teenager in his car. Since this officer already had a fear of the black community, he interpreted many victims' body language as suspicious. This can be seen correlated with real cases such as Michael Brown and Trayvon Martin. George and Officer Darren had already implemented the ideas of the black community and arguing with the fallen teenagers only increased their fear and gave them permission to kill. As Langston Hughes stated in his poem “Democracy” “Democracy will not come [today], nor ever [through] compromise and fear.” Defensive laws are based on fear. While today's society already lives with mutual fear caused by stereotypes, allowing this law to continue to exist simply means giving the right to kill to
