Topic > g at the Prince's Trust (2006), youth cafes are "safe, alcohol-free places where young people feel welcome, can meet friends, have fun and take part in a wide range of activities". Youth cafés offer young people a place where they can hang out with their friends in an inclusive, safe, relaxed and friendly environment. Youth cafés are open to both sexes from different social and cultural backgrounds. Drugs and alcohol would also be banned inside the bar. Involvement in the youth café would give young people the chance to develop strong relationships with other young people who attend the youth café and also with the staff and volunteers involved. The recreational activities carried out give children the opportunity to relax and have fun while the educational activities allow the development of new skills and knowledge. The youth café is also a place where young people can inform themselves and receive advice on issues they may have in their lives; these problems can be linked to “problems with sexual or mental health, parenting skills, training and higher education” (Forkan et al, 2010). The youth bar will be centrally located and located on a well-lit street in a safe area close to transport routes to ensure the safety of young people who may have to travel to and from the youth bar by bus. It will also be ensured that it is wheelchair accessible to ensure no young person is excluded. The youth café will involve the joint effort of staff, volunteers, local communities and young people. The opening hours of the bar will be in the evening from Monday to Friday and also on Saturday afternoon (Forkan et al, 2010). Regardless of whether a young person frequents the youth café to meet friends, relax, listen to music or receive support and advice, their involvement in the youth café seems the same, as each young person's reason for attending is private. Therefore, if a young person receives support from the youth bar, it will not be known to any other young person in the bar or to those who are not present and therefore there will be no social cost for them that they can worry about and there will be no stigma attached to their presence. Youth cafés enable young people to be self-sufficient; although they will be assisted by staff or volunteers, they are granted a high level of autonomy.
