Topic > Case Analysis: Crown Prosecution Services - 1046

Crown Prosecution Services (CPS) is the main prosecuting authority in England and Wales. It was recognized as an independent body in 1985 to handle criminal cases investigated by the police. The Crown Prosecution Service has offices in London, York and Birmingham and operates under a structure of 13 areas in England and Wales, of which a Chief Crown Prosecutor (CPP) safeguards each area and is responsible for providing a high-quality justice service. The (CCP) is assisted by the Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutors (DCCP) and the Business Area Managers (ABM) (Tim Newburn, Peter Neyround, 2013); therefore people are needed to work jointly according to the system setup. The CPS exists to ensure that offenders are brought to justice, victims of crime are supported and that people feel safer in their communities, so it deals with its cases collectively with the help of a range of agencies, teams, units , wings, groups, ministries, organizations, services and courts. (Crown Prosecutors Code, 2013). There is a system of codes and tests set up to ensure the law is applied correctly, known as the Crown Prosecutors' Code and The Full Code Test, issued by the Director of Public Prosecutions. It consists of pace codes and two stages of full code testing called evidentiary and credible testing and public testing. The evidentiary test is the first phase to decide whether to proceed or not. Prosecutors ensure that the right person is prosecuted for the right crime and that perpetrators are brought to justice where possible. Their decision is based on whether or not there is a realistic prospect of conviction, considering availability (available witness), admissibility and reliability... middle of paper... they are aware of the questions being put to them , nevertheless vow to achieve clearly demonstrated results in prosecuting the most serious and complex crimes. Abel Stuart, a journalist from (Plymouth Herald, 2015), said the CPS are working as efficiently as possible and are setting quality standards to help prosecute crimes. To achieve this, the CPS will report on its performance and respond positively to criticism (CPS website). Newburn, T. and Neyround, P.
