Implementing successful communications strategies throughout the organization starts with the hospital's mission and core values. The alignment of goals within an organization must support the workflow to achieve the desired results. As hospital demands continue to increase, we must do more work with fewer staff, leaving an unwanted void. By using a workflow that complements the operational aspect, employee buy-in is essential. Staff throughout the hospital lead the organization. By retaining these individuals, significant cost savings occur within the hospital. Robinson, senior editor, (2012) suggests that “hospitals are not like other businesses. Reducing prices is not an option, not when insurance companies, the government and HMOs minimize compensation.” Therefore, investing in employees is essential. Hospitals must get the best out of their employees since they cannot buy their customers (Robinson 2012). Communication is important to keep staff empowered. Participating in daily face-to-face meetings with employees increases positive work culture, morale and overall productivity. The hospital environment has many different avenues for which it can be difficult to specify the most convenient route: therefore, by looking at the care coordination model- At admission to discharge, we can begin to focus our energies on collaboration, communication and coordination of treatments. By engaging employees early in the morning, the workflow process begins. Coordinating patient care across shifts allows employees to take part in the interactions necessary for their work culture. Tosti (2007) states “that one way to define culture is how a group of people prefers to behave” (p. 21). For the organization… middle of paper… to create a positive work environment.
