The appropriation and monetary gain that the United States received from the production and airing of Samba music makes it clear that the United States was wrong. No matter how much the creators of the word Samba deny that the word was not created to cover up and disenfranchise the musical style it continued to have. Yes, the musical style became an international phenomenon, but it didn't give Cubans the credit it deserved. The US did the easy part by differentiating it slightly from Cuban salsa by adding jazz, funk or R&B. There has certainly been a lot of controversy surrounding the musical genre from a political, cultural and economic point of view. It's nice to see that after the thaw of the Cold War and the increase in diplomatic and cultural ties it has become evident that countries and their artists have finally started to settle down, mix together and give Cuba the credit it deserved. In the end it went the way it was supposed to go, but that doesn't stop us from remembering the darkness
