Casinos are known for gambling, money, fun and luck. But have you ever wondered what it's like to work in one of them? The casino is part of the Hospitality Management cluster. There are several jobs in this area, such as dealers, gaming supervisors, slot attendants, game runners/sports book writers, and game managers. The casino business mainly works as a ladder. You work your way up to the top job. One of the top careers for general manager, which was the one that caught my attention. General managers (GMs) negotiate all activities and services offered in a casino. From staffing issues to creating and sticking to a budget. Casino general managers work with human resources, accounting, marketing, security, housekeeping, food services and gaming departments to develop procedures and plans, observe activities and ensure customer happiness. “The general manager of a casino is responsible not only for the gambling side, but also for the hotel and restaurants associated with it,” says Jim Bright, president of Bristol Associates. As far as travel goes, this career doesn't have many requirements. The only journey to make is to find a place where there is a casino considering there are only 22 states with commercial casinos. As I said before, the structure of a casino works like a ladder. To work as a general manager you should work in one of the lower jobs to gain experience. In fact, as a requirement you should have worked in a casino for 10-15 years. Training is also a general need in this professional path.
