In The Metamorphosis of Franz Kafka, Gregor Samsa is portrayed as a normal person. Someone who hates their job but recognizes that their work is necessary because it supports their family. Before Gregor turned into a dung beetle, his family seemed to care about him. Due to the main characters' transformation into an insect, everyone in his family begins to hate him.
