Not all of us were raised ready for the responsibilities of adulthood. Having the ability to learn from someone's mistakes or accomplishments is a great resource. Nonfiction television has a positive influence because we are able to decode useful information and use it to our advantage, while still enjoying the parts intended for entertainment. A counter argument to this would be that reality television is a bad influence because of the violence it erupts. Reality Television is normally suitable for children over the age of 14, because they are at a stage in their lives where they are learning what is right and what is wrong. Violence is not entirely bad if the audience understands it for entertainment purposes. One show that positively influenced me that a boyfriend at age 16 could be a horrible idea, was Teen Mom. It taught over “5 million viewers in 2011” (Wikipedia, 5) that having a child at a young age is a challenging experience. New mothers explained that you lose your friends, education and freedom. Additionally, it helped comfort and guide expectant mothers. About “62% of girls [said] that these types of programs increased their awareness of social issues and causes” (Why reality TV is good). This illustration shows that many people are interested in reality television and are willing to learn from others. Also, this shows that it is not entirely for entertainment purposes, but can be used as insight
