Topic > Controversy Emerges towards Modern Sitcoms

What goes through your mind when you watch a kid brutally beat the family dog? Have you received a disturbing image? Well, in an episode of Family Guy Stewie brutally beats Bryan, the family dog, because the dog didn't repay him. This is a truly scandalous thing for a child to do, and even more so very inappropriate. Well, as today's society is more exposed and tolerant of certain content on many different topics, the significant topic used as entertainment in many comedies is becoming more controversial every day. Popular television shows like Family Guy, The Simpsons, and South Park regularly show that jokes centered around risqué topics like abortion, religion, drug abuse, racism, and even the theme of inability are funnier. Therefore, although some viewers view these shows with fear, many of them feel comfortable and accept them socially. Comedy isn't what it used to be; in fact, today comedy is a way to ridicule society and the people who live in it. Therefore, begging the question, are modern comedy sitcoms too controversial? This show is often criticized for being too controversial and overdoing the jokes. It is an American animated sitcom, Family Guy, which has been the subject of numerous complaints regarding taste and indecency in recent years. The Parents Television Council (PTC) expressed moral opposition to the series and filed complaints with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Family Guy has also been criticized by other animated sitcoms such as South Park and The Simpsons. Even though this show was canceled twice, it still managed to return to Fox. This show is about a so called normal family, and their always... center of paper... the bold topics that are discussed like religion, race, abortion and many more are too provocative. These subjects can easily offend a person. Either the sitcom needs to change its perspective or a lot of people will be offended. Works Cited ABC News. 20 February 2010. Web. 22 March 2012 Wikiinfo.
