She was an abolitionist and was born into slavery. He escaped in 1849 and used the railroad to get to Philadelphia. He returned to the South more than a dozen times and helped more than 300 slaves escape. He also helped his brother, parents and friends escape as he returned to the South. He spoke about the anti-slavery conference. Harriet Tubman joined the union forces. He also contributed to the freeing of over 700 slaves.
