The topic I will be talking about is the film 300. Those of you who have not seen the film should be advised that it is the imaginative recreation of the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 BC when 300 Spartans they risked their lives against the entire force of the Persian army for three full days, being outnumbered by 1 to 300 and heavily underequipped. The entire topic and theme of this movie broadened my interests in warfare and tactics like those used by the Spartans. Say no to plagiarism. Get an Original EssayAs you saw in the movie, if you saw it, when Spartan children came of age, which is usually around age seven, they would be taken away from their mothers and were forced to become battle-hardened warriors at the age of 18 with their fathers. That's not even the scary part! If you were born unfit to be a Spartan, they would literally sacrifice you on the spot in hopes of giving birth to a warrior like child. The training methods used by the Spartans were very rigorous and brutal on the boys. The things they made them do were tests to see if they were capable of being leaders. They had to learn to survive by stealing and doing whatever means necessary to find a way to survive. One very interesting thing I discovered about the Spartans is that there was only one occupation when it came to men and that was to be a soldier. Starting at the age of twenty soldiers had to serve as a soldier until around the age of sixty until they could retire. The most iconic battle tactics and formation used by the Spartans influenced many military powers in that era and that formation was called the Phalanx. . The Phalanx was made up of all the soldiers who stood very close in the front line with their spears drawn while all the others had shields over the heads of the squad so that no arrow could hit them. In the movie the Spartans used this formation several times and if you watched the film you could see that no one was above the other in the formation. Even King Leonidas himself was in the fray at the head of the fight and all were equal. If I may say so, the battle build-up was like a perfect basketball game where everyone was involved and had their time to shine without harming the cause. The training really piqued my interest in warfare formations and how military officers gained these strategic advantages. Unfortunately, a movie is just a movie and the Spartans are not as invincible as we all thought they were or as the movie portrayed them to be. . In the movie you could see at the end of the Battle of Thermopylae, the Spartans were about to die and that was probably the first time you saw them not invincible and just human with a good game plan. The eventual fall of the Spartans began with the Battle of Leuctra in 371 BC at the hands of the Thebans, this would lead to an eventual invasion by the Theban general Epaminondas who oversaw the liberation of all of Sparta's helots and thus led to Sparta becoming second-rate power for the rest of his existence. Which, in my opinion, was a really sad way for such a beautiful empire to end. Please note: this is just an example. Get a custom paper from our expert writers now. The wars that the Spartans had with their enemies were simply relentless and they were very brutal in the way they fought and how.
