I don't think I've ever fully realized how much I actually use certain writing techniques when composing essays for class or even just when writing alone in my journal. As self-centered as it sounds, I'm interested in myself as a writer much more now than I ever have been before. Mainly because I've never had the need to evaluate myself in such detail. I've found that I feel good when I can write about topics I can personally identify with, like a historical event or when I write my inner thoughts and feelings in my journal. When I write for myself, I never quite know what I'm going to write on a page until I can craft a paragraph and foster additional ideas. Additionally, even when I was assigned a piece of writing, I struggled when planning and often let my mind do all the work before putting pen to paper. Furthermore, I also find myself doing repetitive essay structures and steps, such as writing multiple ideas in the form of bullet points, then from this creating topic sentences that can eventually be articulated into paragraphs. Even though I believe I have efficient writing skills attributes, I know I still have room for improvement in improving my writing skills through all of this. Say no to plagiarism. What I mean by this is that life experiences and communicating with others have taught me so much more. It made me realize that there was more to life and writing itself than what I was taught in a classroom with four walls. Luckily for me, I received a solid education and attended one of the best English schools in South Africa, from which I took full advantage. What I have found is that, in class, I am able to efficiently focus on the lesson at hand and then be able to go home and immediately write in depth for required assignments. It has always been interesting to me to be able to put words on a piece of paper and possibly work them into a formulated response. Also, I write down my personal feelings or opinions. Writing analysis must be considered as it gave me a new perspective on writing. However, it definitely wasn't something fun at times and could get extremely tiring. Over the course of many years, I never had any real interest in the Shakespeare readings or plays I was assigned in school and I definitely didn't like having to answer the answers I was assigned. I often found myself phrasing my answers a little differently than my classmates or having a completely opposite perspective on the topic. This made me not really enjoy writing because I felt like I didn't understand what the rest of my classmates were getting. However, it must be said that I still found an interest in the part of Greek literature assigned to us. I found it really exciting to be able to learn the context and have the ability to respond to ancient Greek mythology and ideas and ultimately have a current opinion on a culture that is thousands of years old. Furthermore, I also discovered what my true interests were when I wasn't given the option to read books and had the option to choose a novel or an article of free will. I found myself being able to read 10 pages or start a new chapter without even realizing it and being completely hooked. For me this is ita good crime or story, as I am really interested in these themes and after reading, I find myself relating or comparing myself to a character I identified with. As I grow up, many values, ideas and perspectives change continuously and nothing always stays the same from my point of view. The readings and texts we encountered this semester really helped me understand what literacy sponsors are all about and what they can provide us. I am quite grateful to have had the literacy sponsors that I have had, as many people have not been given this opportunity. As a child, my mother always read to me in the evenings and what I never fully understood then was that it wasn't just a great bedtime story, but rather a lesson and gateway to my literacy skills that I possess today. Furthermore, social media and technology are now an influential and huge part of modern society. I am constantly surrounded by it in terms of social media, online news, games, ebooks, email and so much more. From this it is easy to say that literacy has taken a new form with the influence of technology. What I have found is that you not only need to be reading literate, but also have a fundamental understanding of how any form of technology works and in-depth knowledge to be able to use it to the best of your ability. If you observe or ask anyone, we live in a decade where when we go to school, almost everyone has laptops, iPads, tablets and smart books in front of them. It seems like our younger generation is acquiring the technology to learn everything, although this wasn't always the case. For me, I'm lucky enough to be able to understand traditional/ancient literacy just with books and appreciate them, but I also really appreciate technology because it makes things easier and I can continue to learn in a new way. On the topic of literacy sponsors, through all of our reading this semester I have come to the conclusion that literacy sponsors are almost everywhere in our lives. Anything and anyone can inspire and motivate you to get better at something which leaves you with a sense of encouragement to achieve more. My personal literacy sponsors complexes with many positives while others negative, which all in all just made me want to be a better writer because I wanted a challenge to prove them wrong. Some of my literacy sponsors weren't even people but new ideas and concepts that made me think from another point of view. Once I can grasp the idea of ​​writing a good essay for an assignment, the job is easy as I become very engrossed in the topic and am able to give my best contribution to the topic. One literacy sponsor I can never forget was my history teacher during my high school years. Ms. Kholopane made reading and writing about history fun and engaging, which is how I ultimately learn best. My teacher was passionate about what we were teaching and sharing, not to mention entertaining and gave me and my class both sides of a story allowing us to decide which side we wanted to lean more towards. History was my favorite subject in those academic years and it definitely helped me become a better student as well as a writer. My older sister is also a huge supporter of literacy in my life. He always encouraged me to read a book on my free time or share with me information about a book he was excited about or reading. He was constantly telling me what books to read and then once I was done.
