One of my goals is to earn a degree in mechanical engineering. My father was a mechanical engineer and was well known for all his achievements. What allowed my father to be so successful in his career is that he traveled to various countries to have the opportunity to see different ways of thinking and doing things. Unfortunately, my father passed away during my senior year. When I chose to follow in his footsteps I knew I had an important role to fill. The study abroad program in Denmark will help me learn more about engineering and how engineering differs from that of the United States. Say no to plagiarism. Renewable energy is a topic that has always interested me because I come from a country, Honduras, that only uses non-renewable energy and the sources have become scarce, which has resulted in a rationalization of energy. I am very interested in learning more about renewable energy and the effects it can have on a country. I know that overall the use of renewable energy can reduce electricity costs in the future and could also help maintain electricity prices. However, the process of building a renewable energy field can be very expensive. By participating in this program I hope to learn more about what is needed to build a renewable energy field and whether it is possible to bring renewable energy to a third world country. I chose this program because renewable energy involves environmental, mechanical, electrical, chemical and even agricultural engineering aspects which will help me better understand the engineering field. The reason I chose Denmark is because it is one of the world leaders in energy renovation and because they are very advanced in engineering and technology. I hope to gain more knowledge of how advanced engineering is in Denmark. One of the reasons my father was so successful in his career was that he was able to travel to different countries and gain more perspectives on how advanced and different they handled mechanical engineering. I am from a country considered third world, so attending the program will have a positive effect on my career because based on what I learn I will be able to bring new and innovative ways of engineering. Coming from a third world country, I never considered studying abroad because I never imagined I would have the chance to even contemplate the idea. One of the many challenges I faced when considering studying abroad was being able to finance the trip. After my father's death, our financial situation changed, I was faced with the question of whether I would be able to continue my studies, it was until I returned to the United States that I realized how many other opportunities there were to me. When I first heard about the Danish program I didn't consider the possibility of participating. After further research and talking to advisors, I found out that they offered scholarships to fund the trip. My first reaction was that I would waste my time applying for the scholarship because I thought there were probably other students better suited for the scholarship. However, I know that to achieve my goals I have to overcome my fear and keep trying because it's better to know that you at least tried rather than just having the possibility of what could have been. Keep in mind: this is just an example. Get one now.
