What does humanity consider to be inhumane punishment? When executed by the government and the inmate suffers it is seen as an unjust punishment. This type of error has been occurring in communities at an alarming rate recently, frightening family members of those on trial for the death penalty. Killing people takes away our citizens, and the process requires more workers and a lot of drugs. Furthermore, keeping someone prisoner for life is cheaper than killing an inmate. The British Medical Association did not want to give lethal injection because they thought they would not be able to inject someone who resisted the injection (the medical basis for lethal injection). Lethal injection is harmful because it wastes a lot of resources, when we could just throw the person in prison. By killing a person, the state not only takes a life, but also uses a lot of money. Everyone makes assumptions about the death penalty, but their claims are usually wrong. “Most people who support the death penalty believe it is cheaper than life imprisonment. Perhaps in a time when executions were quick and safe, this may have been the case." Said by Harris. This means that many people misjudge the execution and believe that it is not very expensive. In the 1960s there were many execution cases. Thus, in 1967, there were so many appeals in death penalty cases that there was an unofficial moratorium on executions in the United States due to the number of appeal cases awaiting a decision by part of the Supreme Court (The medical basis for lethal injection ). The moratorium ended in 1977. So society, not knowing this, creates an information vacuum that makes lethal injection seem better... half of the paper.. . 2012. Web. 8 May 2014. "Kansas."
