How Enrico Cecchetti changed ballet“Aim for softness and ease in your dance performance. Strive for everything to be harmonious. This statement from Cecchetti himself shows the world of dance and some of the things that are asked of you. When you reach the professional level and audition for ballets, this lesson is taught quite quickly. It is not realized before that time and can greatly hinder the dancer. Cecchetti received many lessons at an early age and became an extraordinary dancer, teacher and choreographer thanks to the way he grew up. This path led him to create a way for more people to have the opportunities he had. Cecchetti changed ballet a lot because he developed a new method that guides young dancers along the best path to becoming a professional dancer. Enrico Cecchetti was born on 21 June 1850 in a dressing room of the Tordinona Theater in Rome (Carpenter). He and his siblings Pia and Giuseppe toured with their parents and learned from some of the best choreographers and teachers of the time (Carpenter). All the teachers Cecchetti had as a boy were students of Carlo Blasis, including the man his father sent him to broaden his knowledge of ballet. This man was Giovanni Lepri who had studied for years with Blasis. (ed.) He taught Enrico much about the ways of Blasis' teachings and greatly expanded his technique, skill and knowledge.
