The artists I chose for my research article are Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo Buonarroti. The period in which the two artists lived was the Renaissance period. The term Renaissance means "rebirth". Many things have been reborn in this period, but we will talk about art. As for my first question, where did you study art and how has it influenced your work? Leonardo replied: "When I was 15, my father apprenticed me to a famous artist, Andrea Del Verrocchio, in Florence." Even at a young age, Leonardo showed extraordinary talent. By the time he was in his early thirties, he had already shone as his mentor. Then Michelangelo replied: “I received my formal education from the painter Domenico Ghirlandaio and the sculptor Bartholdi di Giovanni who also lived in Florence. However, I only did one year as an apprentice, then I went to work for the sculptor Bartholdi di Giovanni. While I was there, the ruler of Florence gave me access to a collection of ancient Roman art.” While in Florence, Michelangelo became acquainted with classical art, which had a huge influence on his work. This is where Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo Buonarroti studied art and what influenced their designs. Leonardo responded first by saying: “We are similar in the sense that we are both Italian and we lived in Florence. We have both apprenticed to talented artists of our time and are eclectic, meaning we are both knowledgeable about many different fields of study. This includes; being a painter, sculptor, architect, engineer and even an inventor (Biography.com, 2011).
