Topic > Essay on Education by John Dewey - 573

Throughout my years in high school, my teachers always told me that education in school prepares us for society and the outside world; I think this is really misleading, from what I understand the claim is that they are saying that if students learn the things they are taught in school, they will do well in society. Personally I think that's not true at all, because there are some things you can't learn in a classroom, like how to behave with people and different situations that you can only learn through experience and exclusion from society. Education does not prepare you to become an adult; education is a lifelong process and learning to deal with different situations, knowledge is not just to be stored in your brain but to be applied to yourself and your life as a whole. The main point that I think John Dewey misses in his statement is the academic and scholastic aspect of learning, his statement was mainly about knowledge learned through society and life, but some students nowadays lack the motivation just to stay at high school, or don't see the point of education or have no interest in what they are learning, students can become "lost" and lose their sense of direction in life, failing to determine what they really want to do and making it more difficult to find a career is right
