SummaryCollaboration is established when others work together to achieve shared and precise objectives. Most collaborative efforts take place in a company or other organization and often focus on tasks or mission accomplishment. This has been shown to increase revenue and employee satisfaction when accompanied by the use of social networks. Some of these social networking tools include Facebook, Twitter, Sharepoint, Yammer, and other internal business tools. Using these social networking platforms to promote collaboration within a company demonstrates that the company is embracing social business. Most business technology professionals find their internal communications programs to be average or below average. Employees tend to feel overwhelmed by new software they are unfamiliar with. This is often the case when time is against the employee. Most employees feel more comfortable and efficient when communicating in more traditional ways, such as email. Another factor here is incentive. Employees feel there is insufficient incentive to learn a new program and use it effectively. To move in the beneficial direction of social networking, IT organizations must take the reins and ensure that training efforts are established, as well as provide the means that will result in added value for the business. Although there are some drawbacks in initially implementing a social network, some companies that have successfully implemented it, to communicate and collaborate, such as CSC and Yum! The brands have had overall positive feedback and results. These two companies achieved a full 100% adoption rate after establishing their social networking choice.
