In an age where every new day is another countdown to global warming, recycling may be our last hope. Since the beginning of humanity, we as consumers have always relied on the earth for its natural resources, just as we now do for our non-biodegradable products. The essential path for our natural resources must be replenished with composting in the earth's soil as a source of nutrients, as has happened for us in our bodies. As for non-biodegradable products, their creation is for our convenience and for that reason alone. We must therefore take responsibility for recycling them before they put a strain on the health of our planet and its inhabitants. According to CleanAir.Org, “…Americans throw away enough paper and plastic cups, forks and spoons to circle the equator about 300 times.” Due to the increasing pressure exerted by our polluted planet, it is necessary to take steps towards recycling and composting to support a "greener" future. One of the fundamental steps in maintaining the earth's soil is the composition process. Composting is a natural process of breaking down organic matter into high-quality soil amendments in a controlled environment. According to SustainableProducts.Org, “…(compostable products) decompose into carbon dioxide, water, inorganic compounds, and biomass at a rate consistent with that of known compostable materials.” This process has numerous benefits for land, water and air that will influence the environment in which we live. In addition to saving our soil from toxic chemical fertilizers, composting also promotes higher yields of agricultural crops.
