What is Web 2.0? Web 2.0 is a series of technological improvements. It was introduced around 2004. The concept focuses on the ability of people to share information and interact with the user. It has become a better medium for open communication. Some examples of Web 2.0 are social networks, blogs and Wikipedia. Some of these social networks are Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. These networks allow users to post about their thoughts, update content, and personalize profiles. These are just to name a few. Web 2.0 affects people's lives in many ways. It has many positive and negative effects. Web 2.0 allows people to stay connected internationally with ease. It has also changed the way words communicate with each other, whether it is business or personal. However, it can become a distraction from the physical world. New media users can easily become overloaded with too much information. Information is always ready and available, resulting in people spending a great deal of time reading and absorbing new material. It is also important to protect yourself from scams, negative images, etc. that derive from these social networks. I chose four people to interview and observe closely. I want to take a closer look at their interaction with new media. I feel like my results might vary depending on the age group. I also believe that people use it for different reasons. I asked them all the same interview questions to make sure there was a constant variable. All four people were observed for a week, for up to three hours. The first person I interviewed was my youngest sister, Jaleea. He is thirteen years old. It was very interesting to interview and observe her. She is an active user of Facebook,...... middle of paper......far from the media and web 2.0. My grandmother prefers to communicate with her family via telephone and mail. She also likes to watch the news on television. He believes things have changed for the worse. He says there are too many alternatives. In my conclusion, I noted that there are variations in all of my arguments. My sister and roommate were more attuned to web 2.0. They find it very essential for their daily life. It seems to have a negative impact on them. My younger sister was conflicted and my roommate was procrastinating on all her schoolwork. My mother and grandmother, however, were not active users of web 2.0. They found that their lives were easier without it. Even my mother considered it dangerous. My grandmother found life simpler. In most cases, I believe that age can determine the amount of participation in new media.
