Business Management and Human Rights Until I took this course I didn't realize how much business management had to do with human rights. We, the people of the United States, need information and guidance on appropriate precautions to protect our human rights in business. This is an area of the business management profession that needs greater protection from human rights abuse. Human rights are about recognizing the value and dignity of all people. Human rights imply equality and fairness. They focus on our freedom to make choices about our lives and to develop as human beings. They are about living a life free from fear, harassment or discrimination. Article one of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. The Universal Declaration also states that human rights involve both rights and obligations. States are obliged to respect, protect and realize human rights. According to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, all human beings are equal everywhere, regardless of our background. No matter where humans live or what they believe or think, we are all equal and this is what makes human rights truly universal. Human rights also cover all areas of life, such as economic, social and cultural rights. Rights such as the right to education, health or religion or even freedom from discrimination. Management in business is the process by which people come together to achieve desired goals and objectives. It requires human action to design and facilitate the production of desired goals and outcomes. While the Universal Declaration of Human Rights proclaims that it is up to the State and governments to protect...... middle of paper....... The Universal Declaration of Human Rights seems to be a good example of my theory. The states that have not ratified it believe in human rights, however, appear to have agendas as to why they have not ratified the declaration. Members who ratified the declaration do not fully follow or support it because the declaration is unclear on some points. Ultimately, clearer communication as well as standards or guidelines are needed to ensure that human rights are guaranteed for all. Works CitedImpact, UN (2009).
