The Taylor family's communication style is flawed. The Taylor Family possesses a disguised and indirect form of communication. Within the "parental subsystem" Rosaline and Carl do not discuss how to effectively discipline Earl. Carl noticed that Rosaline spanked Earl most of the time Carl talked to Earl. Carl suggested that he believes he should become friends with Earl before he can become a stepfather. Rosaline informed the counselor that children don't listen to her right away, so she needs to turn to other effective resources. During the session the family represented verbal and non-verbal communication. The family laughed at times when nothing seemed funny, the laughter seemed to be in the form of nervousness.
