Kohlberg has six different stages of moral development. The first phase talks about obedience and punishment. The second phase talks about self-interest orientation. The third stage talks about interpersonal agreement and conformity. The fourth phase talks about authority and orientation towards maintaining social order. The fifth phase talks about social conflict. The sixth phase talks about universal ethical principles. The first level of moral thinking is that generally present at the elementary school level. It all starts at a young age when you are told to do some kind of action by a higher authority. A good example would be that of a parent or teacher. This is obedience. The dictionary describes it as an act or example of obedience. If you don't usually obey there is always some kind of punishment in the end result. This stage of Kohlberg's theory is one of the main morals of life. Without this, the world today would be full of people who do not want to do what they are told by higher authorities.
