One thing that is not mentioned in the case study is that of the potential for physical and emotional abuse or neglect, which may have happened to Aaliyah as she was growing up. Sure, there are parents out there who can drink excessively and not physically harm their children, but there are still the psychological consequences of not having a fully responsive or present parent. I think with Aaliyah's past she will have to be vigilant and aware of the factors pertaining to her upbringing and everything that may entail. Aaliyah wants to improve her life and is doing things to ensure her future is secure. It would do her good to have a counselor on her side as someone to talk to when she feels she is not living up to her own expectations.
