Creation, destruction, and renewal were very important parts of the Jewish and Mayan cultures. They had different stories that explained how their Gods created humanity, destroyed it, and renewed it. In the Jewish creation story, Genesis, God created vegetation, the animal kingdom, and humanity in that order. God then created a flood to destroy mankind because of their evil thoughts. He then chose Noah to renew humanity with his ark. In the Mayan creation story, the Popol Vuh, the Gods attempted to create humanity four times. It begins with the creation of animals, which could not speak or praise. So people were created from mud, but they were built poorly and fell apart. The Gods tried to use wood to build humanity, even though they could speak, they could not hear. Eventually the wood people were destroyed and humanity was created using corn.
