How does doping in sports harm the sports industry as a whole? The use of performance-enhancing drugs in sports is commonly known as doping. Doping is banned worldwide in every sporting administration and competition, and doping gives an unfair advantage to those who use illegal substances, such as steroids, to enhance their performance. It also puts at stake the integrity of those athletes who do not use doping drugs also known as “clean” athletes. Indeed, it appears we are entering the era of performance-enhancing drugs in professional sport. Doping frees real athletes from what they truly deserve and it is wrong; because why should those who put in one hundred percent effort be surpassed by individuals who choose to use substances to enhance their physical and mental abilities? Doping harms the sports industry as a whole because it has severe physical and mental effects on athletes, as well as damaging the idea of sportsmanship and also breaks the trust of fans, as they realize that their idols are hypocrites. Doping in sports dates back to ancient Greek times (need to refer here). There are anti-doping agencies around the world in virtually every country. In Switzerland it is the Nigerian National Anti-Doping Committee, in Nigeria the Nigerian National Anti-Doping Committee and in the United Kingdom the British Anti-Doping Committee. The rise of anti-doping industries around the world indicates the measures they are willing to take to completely eradicate doping and bring back positive spirits and confidence. So, knowing the measures the authorities are willing to take, why do athletes still choose to risk their careers and health? The answer is that an athletic career doesn't last very long, age is everything... middle of the paper... there are no enhancement drugs. Or even continuous attempts and repeated failures. Some might say that the penalty for a positive test on performance-enhancing drugs also becomes too weak. Just last week American professional sprinter Tyson Gay was suspended for a year by the US Anti-Doping Agency. He was easily second fastest along with Yohan Blake, finishing second or third after Usain Bolt. CONCLUSION Overall it is clear that the need to use performance enhancing drugs is outweighed by the consequences and problems caused by performance enhancing drugs. Sporting events such as the World Cup, Olympics or World Series make children feel inspired and encouraged about what they could achieve through dedication and hard work. I believe it is important that the sports industry and athletes restore respectability to this sport. From
