In our 6th seminar, we were organized into groups to complete a "Wildlife Survival Exercise", this activity consisted of 6 group members making logical group decisions that were influenced by motivation of others and organizational factors, behavior of group members. In summary, this exercise included a group of campers who were traveling down a river with their canoes and all their supplies, when they suddenly encounter rapids, which lead to the group of 6 campers falling and the canoes being destroyed. Therefore, this led to the destruction or ruin of most of their supplies and necessities. Before reading the case scenario, we had to form a group of 6 members to discuss which elements are more necessary for survival than others. After gathering 5 more members, my group and I went through the first step in the 5 stages of group development, forming; where we met. Throughout the training process, the group members and I examined the 3 main concepts of active listening. Perceiving, letting group members speak without interruption and maintaining interest, responding by showing interest in the speaker and, evaluating, organizing information and providing feedback. That said, we were given a select number of items to choose from and which of these 14 items would be most valuable for survival. Individually we selected the objects that we considered most useful for survival and listed them in ascending order from what we considered most valuable to the least valuable. We then met as a group to discuss what we thought were the most important items for survival and had to make a list as a group. Everyone who contributed to the group's decision is where we found...half of the paper...the answer. Kelly's random attributes theory was used to create the perception of other group members because similar individuals have behaved the same way in the past or behaved the same way in the past showing no interest in the job. Fairness theory was also ensured when individuals felt as if their input was never obligated to the decision or if they were treated equally. This was when a certain individual in the group always provided his opinion but it was never the answer. He felt like his beliefs were always overlooked, so he was always comparing himself to others in the group. In my opinion, I felt that this exercise revealed to us that it is not easy to make decisions in a group, and it could be very difficult. It also gave us social and behavioral insights to show us how we use them without even realizing it.
