As a resident of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Lehigh University has always been a dream. From watching wrestling matches in Stabler Arena to playing summer soccer on the fields of the Murray H. Goodman Campus, I fell in love with the spirit and tradition of the school. Living ten minutes from the main campus, I have always seen Lehigh as an opportunity to study in the comfort of my hometown. Essentially, Lehigh is home. I committed to giving back to Bethlehem and volunteered 400 hours in the surrounding area. Attending Lehigh will allow me to continue serving my community and experience Bethlehem with a whole new perspective. In addition to proximity, Lehigh offers the opportunity to study chemistry. With over 70% of students participating in research, I hope to help faculty contribute and make an impact in the field of science. I can also give my chemistry concentration the flexibility that will allow me to focus on my future career in healthcare. With the flexibility of the programs, I will be able to form a medical background that will benefit me for my medical school aspirations. Coming from a fully Puerto Rican background, I have learned to truly appreciate my culture and influences. Through personal experiences, I have noticed how Lehigh emphasizes the importance of multicultural students in adding to an overall diverse atmosphere. In particular, last year I was able to attend a Lehigh Cultural Clubs production called “Platanos and Collard Greens.” Initially, I did not expect Lehigh to thrive with both Latino and African American students. After my experience at the show, I was sure I wanted to add to Lehigh's diversity and cultural clubs. Overall, Lehigh... middle of paper... The video will show some of the show's activities. dance marathon and even a clip of the Wagners, one of our Thon families, sharing the story and struggles of their son Ben. While we do one dance marathon a year, the video will also show clips from other fundraisers we've run. As a fundraising manager, I manage and organize many of the charity events that take place in addition to the dance marathon. The video will contain footage of the 5km run we organized at my school in September. Additionally, the video will help promote our future fundraising events and communicate our overall goal of raising $45,000. This December, my committee will introduce Mini-Thons to local elementary schools to continue spreading awareness and fundraising efforts. Ultimately, the video allows me to showcase the success of Mini-Thon in my school and community.
