Introduction It is important that all students are able to learn in a safe and productive classroom, but student misbehavior can be detrimental to that environment. Destructive misbehavior can be mild and have no impact on student achievement, or it can be severe and affect the entire class. Johnny is a fifth grade student who constantly interrupts class by making faces. A classroom management plan will address Johnny's individual needs and those of the class. Qualitative use of time and transition between activities Keeping students focused can be difficult. Johnny's behavior in the present case increases the difficulty factor. One thing a teacher can do to maintain focus on the lesson and ensure time is used wisely is to have a clear idea of ​​where the lesson and learning should go, and direct it. If Johnny is disruptive, communicate with him individually before the start of the day, talk to him about the need for his help and ask him to be a special helper. If Johnny starts to be disruptive, ask him to help you bring the lesson back into focus. This will be a gentle reminder to be good and help the class focus. Another difficulty a teacher may encounter is transitioning from one lesson to another. Having some predictable and pre-established verbal and nonverbal cues is a good idea for establishing transitions (McDaniel, 2011). Again, communicate with Johnny outside of scheduled school hours and see if he needs more concrete input for transitions and if he has any ideas on how to improve it.
