Topic > Pros and cons of Gotube and Twitter justifiable

A closer look at the recent phenomenon: Is banning YouTube and Twitter justifiable? With the development of technology, computers and mobile phones have started to take a notable role in our lives. As a result, websites and applications began to develop with the primary goal of sharing information. Today, it would not be wrong to say that traditional modes of communication are almost completely replaced by new modes thanks to recent advancements. For example, more and more people tend to visit newspaper websites instead of reading the newspaper itself. Some other platforms like YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook were also founded in the last decade. While most people agree on the benefits of these sites, some argue that they could be harmful to both citizens and the government. For this reason they hope that in urgent situations the authorities will take the lead and adopt the necessary regulations through bans or partial restrictions. Whether or not YouTube and Twitter should be banned is a controversial issue. However, one point is very clear: banning such social networking sites is not justifiable at all. Supporters of the idea that the ban is justifiable would say that authorities have every freedom to ban such sites when information regarding government policies is at stake. Their approach is rather wrong because bans or restrictions are not adequate solutions to this very problem. What goes beyond this problem is that governments have not adopted a policy of transparency from the beginning and continue to keep secrets that they fear citizens might find out about. While the government is not obligated to inform people about every step it takes, these important secrets do not have to be kept. Furthermore, if transparency... middle of paper... is not a justifiable act both for its consequences and for the insufficiency in resolving the problems mentioned. It is obvious that the ban does not offer a solution and in some cases even causes further problems. Furthermore, it is an intervention towards human rights. Therefore, the only conclusion that can be drawn is that banning Twitter and YouTube is not justifiable at all. For this reason, we should take a stand to protect our rights from the sordid evil desires of dictators. References: Tanveer, R. (2014, March 17) YouTube ban challenged in Lahore High Court.
