This disease was rare in the old days because it was unusual to accumulate enough fat to damage the liver. However, many people in the United States now suffer from NAFLD and NASH. No cases of NASH were reported before 1998. In contrast, a statistic from a website called "Partners In Liver Wellness" provides alarming information.
