Is technology contributing to American laziness? Many people spend their free time behind computers and tablets rather than being physically productive. However, most new technologies have brought many benefits to advancements in how we function efficiently in the world today; it has also contributed to the sedentary lifestyle of many adults and children. A world before technology included children playing outdoor activities and adults engaging in these activities with their children. Technology should be limited to ensure that we all have an adequate amount of social interaction, that children receive an adequate education, and to help reduce the continued growth of obesity in America. If we were to look around, there is no doubt that we will see at least one person with their phone in their hand. Smartphones, tablets, computers and televisions are a staple in most households today. As technology becomes smarter, it is evident that people are becoming increasingly lazy. According to a survey conducted by the Department of Labor in 2012, watching TV was the most time-consuming recreational activity, approximately 2.8 hours per day (“American Time Use Survey Summary”). This means that people spend more time watching television than in any other leisure activity. Technology is the main thing people turn to, both for entertainment and functional use. People rely on technological devices more than they should. One of the major problems influenced by technology is human dependence on it. Many people use it in almost every aspect of their daily lives. Does anyone really remember the phone n...... middle of paper ...... hnology adds obesity problems worldwide: report." U.S. News.
