The impact of college athletic programs on academics has always been a contentious and contentious topic. It appears that athletic programs have some contemplative effects on college and university academics. Different people have different ideas about how college athletic programs should be carried out. College presidents, administrations, student athletes, parents of students and athletic trainers are among these people pointing out several facts about the impact of athletics on academics. One group of people suggests that athletic programs should be eliminated from the university system, while another group suggests that athletic programs should be given more careful consideration. An analysis of the effects of college athletics on academics has two personal approaches: college athletics weakens academics and athletics amplifies the academic experience. The financial aspects and profitability of college athletic programs are one of the most important topics involved in this controversy. A group of people say college athletic programs are overemphasized. The point they show firsthand is that athletic programs are too expensive for community colleges and small universities. Furthermore, statistics demonstrate that the financial aspects of college athletic programs are extremely questionable. It is true that maintenance and facility costs for athletic programs are significantly higher than academic programs. Therefore, Denhart, Villwock, and Vedder argue that athletic programs take money away from important academic programs and degrade their quality. According to them, the average spending per athlete in the Football Bowl Subdivision was $65,800 in 2006.
