Topic > Corporate Ethics: Lack of Solidarity from McDonnell Douglas

The reason I chose to write about this company McDonnell Douglas is because I felt what they did was scary and demonic. They dehumanized the passengers and saw only profit margins. It could be said that the McDonnell Douglas goblins did not know the meaning of the word “solidarity”: solidarity is a principle of Catholic social teaching. This principle means the firm and preserved determination to commit to the common good. This principle incorporates other principles such as human dignity, community, the common good, responsible management and the option for the poor, which is what we must demonstrate in our actions. This principle doesn't always come into play with many companies; Furthermore, when things like this come into play, a company can be said to be participating in unethical business practices. This is why an American company in the commercial aviation industry called McDonnell Douglas has failed to reach its full potential in aircraft design. Their lack of appropriate ethical behavior has demonstrated to many that the expense of changing a product is more important than the loss of life for something that could have been avoided. There are three ways this situation could have been avoided but wasn't: First, find an ethical way to put the consumer's long-term goals first and increase profitability (e.g. maintaining a good corporate image ). Second, consider the short-term effect of being unethical and receiving high profitability and the long-term effect of getting caught and eventually having to file for bankruptcy; McDonnell Douglas has an ethical responsibility for the lives of the people who use its product. McDonnell Douglas had a responsibility to the people to provide them with a quick, hassle-free flight to and from their chosen location… middle of the paper… food chain. And if they were to declare bankruptcy, everyone does. We live in a capitalist society. And what is "Capitalism without bankruptcy is like Christianity without hell" (Borman, Frank) and who really believes in hell, do you think the devious, hypocritical, selfish, serial killer and sinful McDonnell Douglas does? But I don't know, I'll let you decide. Bibliography Frank Borman. (n.d.). BrainyQuote.com.
