Renaissance LiteratureThe word Renaissance is a French term meaning rebirth. Ancient literature and culture were in a deep sleep but awakened with new ideas and brilliant customs. Literature was able to flourish when Constantinople fell in 1453. The inventions of written literature, printing, and theaters allowed the Elizabethan period to prosper by creating the printing press, having royal families influence literature, and educating the poor by increasing their literacy . .Popular books and novels had an impact on the education and culture of the Renaissance era. One of the most famous novels written in the Renaissance era was The Decameron, written by Giovanni Boccaccio. The Decameron contains over 100 stories that show the vision of the plague in the “uncivilized East” (“The Decameron” by Giovanni Boccaccio). One of the most important impacts of the Decameron is that it is the only remaining description of the Black Death of 1348 ("Database of Literature, Art and Medicine"). Boccaccio's novel influenced the response of how religion was viewed differently by people. It scared many people and made them suspicious of how the Pope, royalty and even lords were dying of the plague. It also showed the different characteristics of men and women. However, Boccaccio gave more credibility to women by stating that women have a more advanced role in certain areas where men do not (The Decameron by Giovanni Boccaccio). The Decameron was a story that begins with ten young people, seven women and three men, fleeing from the plague (Bosco). Giovanni Boccaccio stated that women work harder, are more lustful and more astute. Other famous novels included Gargantua and Pantagruel which are graphic novels written by Francois Rabelai...... middle of paper...... books were based on science and literature. It was translated because it was used to get an idea of the past and work from there to improve the mistakes made by scientists and doctors of the past. Knowing the past helped make improvements in those areas and knowing not to make the same mistakes again. Translators are people who were among the most important because they transferred past knowledge into English and changed the future. Renaissance literature was able to unite rich and poor and give proper education to both class statues. I proved my point because I used multiple examples to support my point to let the reader know how the inventions and support of the royal family made people want to thrive for an education. The rebirth of knowledge has led to many improvements that the world today is still making and advancing towards a new goal.
