Topic > Electrically Propelled Aircraft - 1146

IntroductionIn the quest to build an electrically powered aircraft engineers of all times have faced obstacles when they had to design and build these aircraft, one of them is the size and weight of the batteries that run electric motors, the weight was too heavy and they did not produce enough energy to provide the necessary power. Another major obstacle was that the consequences of failure were too high and if these planes ran out of power it meant a guaranteed crash landing. In recent years, encouraged by technological progress and as batteries have become lighter, more powerful and efficient, interest in electric propulsion systems for aircraft has grown significantly. While we are not yet able to build full-scale electric aircraft, we are seeing the development and production of various hybrid aircraft and smaller all-electric aircraft. Industry Incentives As the hybrid designed aircraft brings a large improvement in efficiency due to the use of a relatively small fuel engine designed to operate at peak efficiency during cruising altitudes and use only the battery and electric motor to provide the extra power needed for takeoff and climb, the battery can also recover energy from the small fuel engine during descent when the propellers turn a generator to produce electricity to charge the batteries. The recent growth in motivation for the study and development of alternative propulsion systems is largely due to the clear growth of the aviation industry and this only means greater fuel consumption and a greater impact of the aviation industry on the environment and it will take many years before current aircraft are replaced with a new gene......middle of paper......ConclusionIn my opinion I don't see the implementation of electric or hybrid commercial aviation any time in the next future because turbofan engine technology is still advancing at a fairly rapid pace and with the new technology these engines will significantly improve efficiency within the next few years and many other engine manufacturers will add further improvement in the next couple of years surpassing the system improvements electric and hybrid propulsion for the foreseeable future.
