This can be seen in document 12 where he explains why the Christians attacked the Jews, he states: "The Christian masses, inflamed by religious fanaticism, frightened by the plague and infuriated by economic competition, now without restrictions for these secret Jews, they attacked them whenever they could.” (The Massacre of the New Christians of Lisbon, Doc 12, p. 65) The Spanish Inquisition managed the Christian population by driving the Jewish community from their homes, torturing them to make them confess their sins of practicing Judaism in secret, and ultimately killed them precisely because the Christian mobs could. The Christian population was mad and rage consumed them to kill the Jews. "Carried away by madness and seething with rage, they fell upon the miserable Jews, killing a large number of them, and throwing many of them half alive into the flames." (The Massacre of the New Christians of Lisbon, Doc 12, p. 66) The Jews were not only expelled by the king, but the Christian population took it upon themselves to eliminate them and drive them out of their country. The Christians were far from sane and simply full of hatred. They didn't love the Jewish community, they didn't love the Marranos, they even killed their own out of resentment and antipathy. The inquisition was conducted in such a way that Christians could kill and expel anyone
