IntroductionThe number of electrical and electronic devices powered by electricity is increasing rapidly. At the same time, the amount of electricity used by these devices is also increasing rapidly due to the increased complexity of the applications they run, so overall electrical usage is increasing. Further waste and overuse have become a concern, making a device's energy efficiency even more essential. Therefore the amount of energy needed to run an application or execute a command becomes one of the main constraints on device efficiency. This is the area that needs to be focused on due to the increasing operating costs on servers. In this report, we will briefly discuss the various techniques used for energy management and our topic of interest along with their merits and demerits. We recommend some of the solutions for the existing problems.2. MotivationApplications that use the server-client model are increasing, thus making the use of the server more frequent. As a result, the number of servers worldwide is increasing rapidly. Since a single server executes instructions for multiple clients, the amount of power consumed by the server is greater because the server's CPU frequency will be higher and the server will have to stay online all the time... middle of paper... .ndemir, M., Vijaykrishnan, N., Sivasubramaniam, A., Irwin, MJ10.You Sleep No More in SeattleJoshua Reich, Michel Goraczko, Aman Kansal, Jitendra Padhye11.Power and Energy Management for Server SystemsRicardo Bianchiniy and Ram Rajamonyz12.Adaptive Performance and Energy Management in Distributed Computing SystemsMing Chen13.Critical Power Slope: Understanding the Runtime Effects of Frequency ScalingAkihiko Miyoshi Charles Lefurgy Eric Van Hensbergen Ram Rajamony Raj Rajkumar14.Multi-mode Energy Management for Multi-Cluster of Tier ServersTibor Horvath Kevin Skadron15.Energy Management of servers and operating costs in Hosting Centers Yiyu Chen Amitayu Das Wubi Qin Anand Sivasubramaniam Qian Wang Natarajan Gautam http://techpubs.sgi.com/library/manuals/4000/007-4718-004/http://en. wikipedia.org/wiki/Application-specific_integrated_circuit
