Ethos convinces readers of an author's credibility, using sources from authors who are experts in their respective field. Pathos persuades by appealing to the reader's emotions, for example by mentioning the conditions in which children work. Organization refers to the way an article is structured; it allows information to flow smoothly from sentence to sentence and paragraph to paragraph. Tone is the attitude the writer uses towards the topic and is conveyed through word choice. Tone helps the reader understand the writer's feelings towards a particular topic and can portray a variety of emotions such as humorous, witty, and heartbroken. The tone can be described as informative, passionately involved, distant, or humorous. The Everyday Writer manual was a useful tool during this course. This manual was not only helpful, but it was also very informative and I learned many important aspects of writing. From the manual I learned how to cite an indirect source and how to cite an image, since these two concepts are important when writing an academic essay.
